La Habra was not able to give their seniors a win in their last home game last week, as they fell to Buena Park by 13. The Highlanders thought that since their senior night was spoiled, they should make sure Fullerton’s was spoiled as well. The Highlanders were able to do that, as they were able to secure an 83-59 win Tuesday night.
Fullerton (7-17, 1-8) was looking for their second league win after they won their first league game last week at Troy. La Habra (10-15, 4-5) shot the ball well from the field, as four of their players scored in double figures, with forward Devin Howlin leading the way with 20 points.
Fullerton started the game by sending all 5 of their seniors out for the opening tip. The Indian seniors came out of the gates slow, while La Habra started on a 12-0 run in the first three minutes of the game.
The hot start by La Habra helped the Highlanders gain a 13-point lead going into the second quarter. The Indians were able to get their offense going with 15 second quarter points, but La Habra refused to slow down, as 3-pointers by Howlin and Zach Varvis gave the Highlanders a 39-20 edge going into halftime.
The third quarter saw fireworks from both teams, as each team traded basket after basket. Fullerton’s Stone Sinek scored 12 of his game high 23 points in the third quarter with a trio of 3-pointers, and senior guard Travis Bush added his own 3-pointer to the score. However, 11 third quarter points from Howlin helped the Highlanders put the game out of reach, as they led 64-42 with 8 minutes left of play left.
Going into the fourth quarter with a 22-point deficit, Fullerton was looking to slow down La Habra’s offense to get themselves back in the game. La Habra could not be stopped, as the offense kept at its pace in the final quarter to hold on to their 24-point victory. The 83 points scored by La Habra was the most the team had scored all year.
Both teams will conclude their regular seasons on Thursday night on the road. La Habra will travel to Sunny Hills with hopes of reaching the Division 3A playoffs, while Fullerton will take on Sonora, who already has clinched the Freeway League title.
