Fullerton College’s Student Ambassador Program started around two to three years ago and continues to build. At the end of each spring semester, the Office of Campus Communication accepts six new students into their program.

Students accepted into the program receive training by Melissa Serrato, Office of Campus Communications Marketing and Outreach Assistant and Student Ambassador Advisor. Students will also attend workshops and seminars to better help equip them to represent Fullerton College to the best of their ability.

“We provide them with the leadership skills necessary to build their resume,” Serrato said.

Responsibilities of a Student Ambassador involve being apart of large campus events like the STEM Youth Conference, KinderCaminata, and Worldfest, guiding campus tours for prospective students, representing Fullerton College at college fairs, and ultimately shining as a leader amongst their peers.

Fullerton College students interested in applying for the program must demonstrate leadership skills, have good time-management skills, have strong written and verbal communication skills, be social, and hold at least a 2.5 GPA. The Office of Campus Communications look for students who not only do well academically but are also involved in other clubs and organizations on campus.

Once students are selected they are trained in personal development and attend workshops during the summer to be ready to serve the campus at Smart Start Saturday in August. A year minimum commitment is required of any student interested in the Student Ambassador program, but can extend their position with office approval for as long as they wish.

Fairly new to the program, Serrato has big plans for the next round of ambassadors, she hopes to see more team building activities and self-reflection in the future to help the students understand their skills and strengths and learn how to utilize them. Serrato also hopes to provide a sense of mentorship for the students to assist them in their leadership growth.

“It is a fun rewarding position that helps gain valuable skills and leadership especially if they are looking to go into the fields of communications, marketing, or business,” Serrato said.

Current Student ambassadors are Danielle Ritchie, Daphne Ruiz, and Doan Truong, they will assist in training new incoming ambassadors this summer.

The office of Campus Communications is currently reviewing applicants and new ambassadors will be hired by July 1.
