Fullerton College’s Art Collection now open for viewing

The Arts Department started the 2015 school year off with a biennial show featuring selections from their extensive permanent art collection._DSC5509.JPG

At the entrance of the gallery there was a constant filter of people walking in and browsing at the artwork. Many of those people walked towards the students helping with the showcase, who welcomed you with food and refreshments, including vegan options.

Also near the entrance, a faculty member was selling the new art catalog that had not been produced in the last 13 to 14 years. This catalog includes the artwork from the artists in residence, artwork from the show and a more extensive look into their permanent art collection.

As you enter, you can see the wonderful artwork on display and attendees looking intently at various art pieces. Some even whipped out their phones to capture the moment while other students took notes.

The show also attracted many observers who are art lovers and some who were not even students all coming to support the gallery. The selected pieces came from a range of local artists to highly prized artists that were a diverse combination of styles.

The faculty of the Arts Department also showed their support at the reception including the Interim Dean of Fine Arts, John Tebay, who expressed his enthusiasm by giving a brief speech about the showing.

“Do not take this gallery or art department for granted. There is not a college nor university that has this level of an art collection. This is phenomenal; this is a gem; this art department, this gallery and this showing… this is a rare moment,” Tebay said.

He also expressed his gratitude for the staff and Gallery Director, Carol Henke, who has lead the arts gallery well and helped with the production of the art catalog.

After Tebay’s speech, you could feel the motivation and insight flow through the room and rest in everyone’s mind as they continued to browse the art.

The show was also put together by students who are taking the Intro to Gallery Art class. Their duties include: helping paint the walls, clean the gallery and place art in designated spaces. In the advanced class they have the opportunity to help select future artwork that gets to be displayed.

Overall, the gallery was a success for students and faculty alike, making it a very stimulating experience. If you wish to see more artwork follow them on Instagram at @fcartgallery or visit them in the 1000 building.
