“91 Street Clear” countdown closing in

The 91 Freeway will be shutting down for the weekend of February 19th to allow construction to commence for 55 hours and reopen at 4 a.m. on Monday.

The closure will begin on Friday night at 9 p.m between Interstate 15 and the 71 Expressway.

About 6 miles of the freeway will be completely closed out to the general public, and with detours surrounding the closure, the 15, 71 and 91 freeways may be filled with delays that can possibly have commuter sitting in traffic for three to four hours.

Commuters who take their usual routes towards Orange County from the 91 are encouraged to detour using Interstate 10, State Route 60 or State Route 210 throughout the weekend.

All traffic normally squeezing from the west in Corona will be directed onto Interstate 15, and commuters who are heading east will be detoured onto the 71 expressway.

Drivers will be guided to steer clear of the construction area, as California Highway Patrol has taken every measure they can with tow trucks and traffic signals to ensure the safety of everyone who may still find themselves driving by the project zone.

The expansion of the 91 is a project that has been initiated since 2014, with the purpose of widening and creating new traffic lanes and ramps, as well as providing shoulder space within the east and west side of the freeway.

In addition, crews will take the time to repair any potholes and clear out trash on the roads.
