Gaga dropped her new single “Perfect Illusion” on Sept. 9 with a jaw dropping 6 million views and counting since its release. With a new image and versatility, this era of Gaga is certainly turning heads.

During her three year break, Gaga made quite a scene with her critically claimed performance in FX’s “American Horror Story”, earning her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. This comes as no surprise seeing the Grammy Award wining artist attended NYU with sights set on perusing the theater arts until the release of her debut album “The Fame” in 2008.

The mother monster demonstrated her abilities when she dabbled in blues and jazz with her collaboration with Tony Bennett in their 2014 album titled “Cheek to Cheek”.

Aside from music and acting, Gaga teamed up with Vice President Joe Biden on the It’s On Us campaign for promoting the end of sexual assault on college campuses.

Gaga also launched the Born This Way Foundation in 2012 with her mother, Cynthia Germanotta. According to the foundation’s website, they are committed to “supporting the wellness of young people and empowering them to create a kinder and braver world.”

The theatrical-pop sounding new single “Perfect Illusion” shows Gaga’s diverse vocal range, reaching higher than ever before. Her hard work over the years is shining through.

“There seems to be a cleaner sound with more emphasize on her voice” Susana Hernandez said, who’s a full-time student at Fullerton College. “It makes me curious to see what see she has in store.”

But not every person agrees to this new sound. “It’s too futuristic and theatrical for my taste” Pearl Choe states, who is a long time fan of Gaga.

“Perfect Illusion” is great for music lovers who are deeply into the pop genre and open to Lady’s Gaga’s constant change of style. She’s gone from bubble-gum pop to disco-pop and rock-pop with a deeper substance with the lyrics.

The new single’s lyrics shows listeners Gaga’s changing her viewpoints on relationships with her older songs being more sexually explicit. “Perfect Illusion” expresses that love isn’t always what it seems and that you have to be aware of who you trust, while learn to control your emotions.

This new era is showing Mother Monster’s growth mentally and physically. She’s taking fans along for the ride on her journey of self discovery.

“How do we look through these images that we know are filtered and altered, and decipher what is reality and what is a perfect illusion?” Gaga stated to BBC 1 Radio.
