Candidate Forum Thursday night at City Hall.

Eleven candidates had the opportunity to present their beliefs and plans to members of the community.

Nine are running for three council member positions, and two are running for city treasurer.

The League of Women Voters was found in 1920 by Carrie Chapman Catt in accordance with the Women’s Suffrage Movement. First coming to Fullerton in 1957, the North Orange County division has grown to encompass eight cities and school districts, including Placentia.

They work to “increase understanding of major public policy issues”, all the while staying nonpartisan, according to their mission statement.

Community members’ main concerns were focused on the stability of the fiscal branch of the Placentia city government following the $5.1 billion embezzlement that occurred earlier this year.

Each candidate was given a minute to respond to audience members’ questions.

Questions regarding redistricting, economic investment into the downtown area, marijuana dispensaries within city lines, city worker compensation and a potential partnership with the O.C. Sheriffs were presented to the panel.

The general consensus of all of those running was they wanted the best for Placentia; for its growth, its stability and most importantly: its people.

Whether optimal success would be reached via conservative fiscal measures, implementations via new committees or remaining nonpartisan varied amongst the individuals.

The candidates will appear on the Nov. 8 ballot.
