California native, Tom Steyer, has appeared in a series of television ads insisting President Donald Trump be removed from office to preserve America’s democracy. Though slow to enter the Democratic presidential race, the “Need to Impeach” founder finally threw his hat in the ring in July.
Fullerton College will hold a town hall where Steyer will be speaking on his views on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 10 a.m. The event will be held in the 1400 building and the doors will open at 9:30 a.m. The event is free to the public but space is limited, so RSVP early to confirm your seat here.
After spending millions of dollars on an ad campaign to impeach President Trump, Steyer has built an online grassroots following. He labels himself as the progressive self-made billionaire who will save our country from corporate strongholds. After considering running for California governor and senator, Steyer finally settled on the loftiest bid; president. He promises to spend $100 million of his own money on the campaign.
Steyer grew up in New York City, graduated from Yale, then headed back to his home state of California to earn his MBA at Stanford. It was in 1986 when he settled in San Francisco to start a small investment firm. As time passed, Steyer earned double-digit returns for his investors, which consisted mostly of universities and foundations.
According to his website, when Steyer stepped down from his firm in 2012, he decided to dedicate his life to philanthropy and advocating for a just America that puts people before corporations.
The following year he created the nonprofit, NextGen America. The mission of the nonprofit is to encourage social justice by increasing voter registration and turnout through grassroots community organizing.
This maneuver helped generate one of the highest voter turnouts in the most recent mid-term elections, resulting in the blue wave.
Fullerton College is located at 321 E. Chapman Avenue and free parking will be available in lots 4, 5 and 6 only, for those without permits. Signs will be placed to direct guests to the 1400 building.
Again, space is limited for the event, RSVP to confirm your seat here.
