“Horrible Bosses 2” is anything but horrible

The sequel to the 2011 Seth Gordon movie, “Horrible Bosses 2” does not disappoint. Fans of the first film will be laughing and smiling at this raunchy comedy.

Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis and Jason Bateman return as Dale, Kurt and Dale. Having each left their previous employment, all three men are working together on an innovation in hopes of becoming their own boss and achieving the American dream. But after a miscommunication with billionaire Bert Hanson (Academy Award Winner Christoph Waltz) and his extremely good looking, yet cocky son, Rex, played by the always charming Chris Pine (Star Trek, Unstoppable), the boys conspire a mischievous plan.

Fan favorite characters from the first film return including Jaime Foxx as the mysterious back bar assassin, ‘MF’ Jones. Jennifer Aniston also returns as the blatantly sexual and kinky dentist Julia Harris. And, Kevin Spacey puts films like “Wolf of Wall Street” to shame with the number of F-Bombs he drops in such a limited amount of time.

The true standout of the film was Chris Pine. His channeling of the sociopathic, rich, scorned son is absolutely amazing and rivals the performances of Day, Sudekis, and Bateman. For a quick laugh comedy, Pine plays a complex character that’s so back and forth, the audience may experience whiplash. Though not necessarily a boss, Rex Hanson is the definition of horrible, but in the best way.

Raunchy is probably the best descriptor of the comedy in the film. The banter seeks to shock the audience, but never too uncomfortable. Some may find jokes about sexual assault, disturbing sexual kinks and childhood homosexual experiences insulting to a degree. But, with a cast as great as this one, the dialogue never falls flat and keeps the film rolling. Though raunchy, there are no cheap jokes in this writing. Witty plays on real life situations one experiences with friends and family alike will bring out the laughter in anyone.

Overall the film is great. If you’re a fan of the first film, you will love the sequel. ‘Horrible Bosses 2’ is the comedy hit of the Thanksgiving season and seeks to sit atop the box office amongst it’s rivals “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay pt 1” and “Penguins”, the spinoff to the wildly successful “Madagascar” series.

‘Horrible Bosses 2’ opens nationwide in theaters on November 25.
