With Election Day around the corner on Nov. 5, 2024, knowing how to make your vote count is very important. There are many ways you can vote whether it’s in person at the polls, by mail, or by drop off. Monday, Oct. 21, 2024 you can register to vote online or by mail.
Every year many Americans miss their opportunity to vote because many don’t know how to register to vote or they miss the deadline.
Registered voters in California will be mailed a ballot on Oct. 5. They are usually mailed 29 days before Election Day. The last day to request a replacement mail ballot will be Oct. 29. Be sure to mail it early and no later than election day.
When completing a ballot it’s important to follow the steps. You must sign it, make sure it matches your voter’s registration card. Print your address, don’t forget to put the date on the back of the returned envelope, return your ballot in the envelope provided.
If you cast your ballot in person, drop off your voting ballot at any voting location in your county. Voting can’t be done in another county, only the one you are registered to vote for. It usually tends to open about a month before Election day. At Fullerton College, ballot drop off can be done in room 844, it opens Nov. 2.
Leaving your ballot blank, or not choosing a contest, means that no vote will be recorded for that contest. The rest of the ballot will still count, and you can vote for as many or as few contests on your ballot as you choose to. Every provisional ballot which is used to record a vote for questions that may be given to a voter’s eligibility, meaning it needs to be resolved before that vote counts. County election officials will be checking that, ensuring that voters are registered and didn’t do another ballot somewhere else. If a mailed ballot arrives after Election Day, it will still be processed and be counted, but can’t arrive later than three days after the election.
In order to vote in California, individuals must be a resident of the State, a citizen of the United States, and at least 18 years old at the time of the election.
