The Hornets suffered a loss against Southwestern College, falling 3-0 at home. The Jaguars scored twice in the first half and once in the second half, leaving Fullerton with a 1-1 record this season. With their win against Norco earlier this week, morale was high for the Hornets, but Assistant Coach Kaelah Perez expected a tough game against Southwestern.
“We are pretty new in the season. We have only had a couple of games, so there is not much to compare,” said Perez. “But we are trying to learn from our past mistakes.”
The Hornets’ midfielder Michelle Sanchez demonstrated great defense and kept Southwestern at bay. Sanchez gained control of the ball for her team multiple times throughout the game and was the only Hornet able to take a shot against their goalkeeper.

Team Captain Shiann Rivanis, a freshman, plans to utilize Labor Day’s time off to squeeze in extra practice to work on the team’s togetherness, a skill that she and Perez agreed was lacking.
“I think that’s really what helps us from the back line to the midfield line to the forward line, and just getting us to play together will be really beneficial in keeping our lines a little bit closer,” said Perez.
The Hornet’s next home game against Canyon College is set for September 5, 2025.
