From online blog to DTF shop

Once she graduated high school, Danni Hong was unsure what she wanted to do in college. Growing up she always had a creative side and was interested in calligraphy and typography. Her mom noticed that she had a passion for things of that nature and strongly encouraged her to go to art school, so she did.

In 2007 Hong graduated from the Art Institute of California located in Orange County, where she majored in graphic design.

Now at the age of 30, Hong is a successful business owner of her store Oh, Hello Friend, also known as OHF.

OHF sells many novelty gifts that include, jewelry, stationery, mugs and just about anything creative.

OHF first began as a blog in 2009. From there Hong started setting up at a craft show called Patchwork in Santa Ana. She would make and sell cosmetic jewelry and stationery. For a few years she went from craft show to craft show setting up a weekend shop showcasing some of her work.

In February of 2013 Oh, Hello Friend opened up in Downtown Fullerton.

Hong shared that from a young age she’s always loved notes. As a child, her and her friend created a book of notes. “We’d tape multiple notes together and we would open up notes we’ve written together.” Hong explained.

After blogging about that childhood memory, many of her followers were very interested in the idea and encouraged her to incorporate that in her store.

When shopping in OHF, there are many different stationary items from pens and notebooks to cards for any occasion.

Most of the stationery that is sold in the store is often made from local artists or small businesses. OHF is both retail and wholesale, and they have their own line of stationery, which is sold at similar small businesses across the country. They also showcase products that are from other stores like theirs

Throughout the store you will find words of encouragement. Hong says, “I want everyone, even on their worst days to know that they are loved.”

Hong also displays many bible verses throughout her store that represent her faith and belief in God. She expresses that she has been given this platform, and she is going to share that.

“Everything has been able to happen because God has blessed us with people coming to the shop.” Hong said.

Hong later mentions that she feels like people need to invest in themselves sometimes and do something different and creative. “I really want to provide a creative outlet and promote a community environment,” Hong said.

OHF offers many different workshops such as calligraphy, candle making and nights of encouragement. She feels like these kind of events are the perfect way for friends to spend time together doing something fun.
