Car hits cyclist on Chapman and Victoria

A bicyclist was hit by a car on the cross streets of Chapman Avenue and Victoria Drive at around 8:30 a.m. in Fullerton on Wednesday.

Police officers received a 911 call at 8:34 a.m. and arrived on the scene shortly after.

Paramedics transported the bicyclist to St. Jude Hospital for treatment.

The bicyclist, an unidentified 33-year-old male Fullerton resident, is currently in critical condition. The driver of the car is an unidentified 24-year-old female Fullerton resident.

The driver was driving a red Mitsubishi Lancer.

“We still don’t know if he is going to pull through, we are waiting to see if he’s going to make it through,” said Sergeant Kathryn Hamel of the Fullerton Police Department.

She said that his condition is critical but could change at any moment.

The accident is being treated as a crime scene by police officers and is currently under investigation.

No drugs or alcohol were involved in the drivers case, but Hamel said that they are not sure if that is the case for the cyclist.

The accident caused police officers to stop and detour westbound traffic at Acacia. The closure also resulted in heavy traffic along eastbound Chapman Avenue.
