Chino Hills City Council Member, Cynthia Moran, hosted the 6th Annual Women’s Forum in celebration of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day in the Cadena Cultural Center.

It was Moran’s first year attending the Annual Women’s Forum at Fullerton College. As a woman in politics, she wanted to leave the audience feeling inspired and motivated to achieve their goals.

“I’m here today as proof that as a woman, you can own and operate your own successful business, you can get elected to political office…you will attain your dreams even if you don’t know what they are yet,” Moran said.

According to Moran, women will not reach pay equality with men until 2058 at the current rate of progression.

Roughly 60 people attended the forum – about half the attendees were women and the other half, men, which was even a surprise to Moran.

“What I took from her [Moran’s] speech was to be persistent…don’t give up,” said, Jocelyn Lobato, administration of justice major.

Lobato continued to mention how she learned the importance of networking as well as what she should be putting on her resume, like being on the dean’s list and volunteering at her nephew’s school.

Another student, Alejandra Torres, learned this is the time students, like herself, should be volunteering and becoming more involved, especially with what they like. With an undeclared major, Torres found comfort in not knowing exactly what to do at this point but felt more driven to figure it all out.

Moran gave students advice they could take away from her lecture, “if you don’t find opportunity, you create it.”
