Affordable summer fun for Hornets

their heels into another season of finals, here’s a list of affordable places and events to check out this summer.

Local summer concert series

Day of Music Fullerton festival will take place on Tuesday, June 21 from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. In honor of the summer solstice, dozens of artists and performers will play in public spaces throughout the city. Expect a diverse selection of music and people. The event is free.

The Fullerton Parks and Recreation Department will also be hosting several concerts during the summer. Starting on July 13, every Wednesday night from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. you can catch performances under the stars at the Fullerton Sports Complex. The concerts are free and food will be made available for purchase.

Paranormal fun under a full moon

Have a likeness for the paranormal? Want to spend a summer night walking around the city and visiting places where ghosts have been spotted? If so, check out the Haunted Fullerton Walking Tour.

The Fullerton Museum Center is hosting a Full Moon Haunted Fullerton Walking Tour on June 20 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. An open house with the North Orange County Paranormal Society will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are $18. Space is limited so call the Fullerton Museum Center at 714-738-6545.

Grab some friends and carpool to these events

The O.C. Night Market is back in Orange County for a third season this summer. For three weekends you can enjoy food, music, crafts and entertainment from hundreds of local vendors and businesses.

The Asian-themed night market will be in Costa Mesa the weekends of May 13-15, June 17-19 and August 26-28. Admission is only $5. For more information visit their website.

The 2016 O.C. Fair will kick off on July 15 and run through August 14. Enjoy the dozens of carnival rides and entertainment. Don’t forget the food.

This year the fair is introducing $2 Taste of Fair Food. Every Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. you can get of all the food the fair has to offer. The fair will also have a food map available to help guests find the best food spots.

Tickets and parking will be free on opening day from noon to 1 p.m. General admission prices start at $12 but there are discount tickets available for active-duty military and veterans.

If you have a little more money to spare head out to Universal Studios Hollywood and check out the new attractions they have to offer.

Their newest addition coming this summer is The Walking Dead attraction. The experience mirrors that of the popular TV show. Guests will begin their journey at the hospital just as Rick Grimes did in the show and fight to survive.

Executive producer Greg Nicotero has been working with Universal to ensure the attraction is as authentic to fans.

If you’re not a fan of the undead, check out another of their recently added lands, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Take pictures with the iconic Hogwarts Express or head into Hogsmeade village.

With impending summer crowds, the park always kicks up ticket prices. Worry not Hornets, students can save as much as $10 on tickets by visiting here. Just be sure to have your school email on hand.
