Incredibly close to a win for Hornet Soccer

The girls have yet to get another win in their season but that will not stop them from learning from their mistakes and battling through their second round of conference.

Both the Hornets and the Mustangs played immensely equivalent considering the fact that the two teams are neck and neck in the conference standings.

The Mustangs were the first to score early in the first half from an uncleared ball close the Hornets goal.

Hornet’s new goalie Marla Debarros had about 5 saves throughout the match but fell that goal too short.

The Hornets came back in the beginning of the second half with a miraculous goal from the right corner that was bent in the back of the net from Sophomore forward and defender Amalia Serna.

Serna had a lot of spectators supporting her during the game which made her goal all the more special to her, but that still doesn’t stop her concern and frustration of why her team isn’t winning.

“We need that extra push from our coaches, to have them believe in us as a whole but most importantly as individuals,” Serna said.

“We need to know where we are messing up simply because we are young team and until then, wins aren’t going to come for us.”

The coaching staff for the Hornets being just as frustrated as the girls still has faith that this team will do much better in their second round of conference considering the fact that they know each team’s playbook.

One main element that assistant coach Cristian Rus thinks the girls are lacking is the willingness to compete.

That each girl should want to show up to practice and give 110 percent when you represent something as important as your college.

To prove to each team that the Fullerton College women’s soccer team is not going down without a fight, but unfortunately that might not be the case.

This team still has a lot to work on when it comes down to playing as a team instead of the shining as individual players.

The Hornets have one more game to compete in their first round of conference.

Catch them play at Saddleback College on October 11 at 3:00 p.m.
