Baseball splits series with Taft

The Hornets picked up a split in a weekend series against Taft, Wednesday and Thursday at home. They won the first game 8-3, before losing the second one 9-2.

Thursday’s game did not go as planned from the get go. Taft scored four runs in the top of the first inning and had a 4-0 lead before the Hornets even knew they were playing.

The Hornets answered with one of their own in the bottom of the inning. Dakota Wix led off the game with a hit and was later drove in by Jose Rojas.

The teams also traded runs in the third inning and Taft had a 5-2 lead. Taft added four more unanswered runs in the fifth through ninth innings and picked up the win.

Dylan Prohoroff picked up the loss for Fullerton and was only able to pitch three innings, while giving up five runs on five hits. Only two of the runs were earned.

Brandon Van Stone picked up the win after throwing the complete game and giving up two runs on eight hits.

The disappointing loss came after a big 8-3 win for the Hornets.

In the first game, the Hornets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Taft came back to take a 3-2 lead but two runs in the sixth inning and four in the eighth inning gave the Hornets the 8-3 win.

Christian Prado was 2-4 for the Hornets with two RBI. Dakota Wix, Jose Rojas, James Smith and Garrett Valdez all added RBI.

Three of the Hornet’s runs were charged as unearned runs to Taft pitchers.

Nick Morton turned in a solid start and picked up the win for FC. He went 7.2 innings and gave up three runs on ten hits and also picked up three strikeouts.
