CARE, CalWORKs and Fullerton College’s Foster Youth Success Initiative are joining forces to make the holidays a little brighter for the children and families of Fullerton College students by holding the 29th annual Adopt-an-Angel event on Saturday, Dec. 6. The event’s purpose is to provide resources to the student community during the holiday season.
CalWORKS Office Coordinator Amy Moreno stated that the need for resources throughout the holidays is one of the primary reasons why this event has become such a staple for the FC student community.
“This event is important because it brings so much joy. Not only to the families benefitting from Adopt-an-Angel, but as well as the staff and administrators that help organize the event and volunteer on the day of the party,” said Moreno.
Faculty, staff, administration, and community members have come together to “adopt” over 219 children of the 101 parents who are members of the participating student organizations. All children registered for the event were adopted within the deadline and will receive wrapped gifts that they wished for at the Adopt-an-Angel party.
The annual party, which will be held at the Cruz Reynoso dining hall, will include a photo session with Santa Claus, a photobooth, games and coloring. Sodexo, which provides the campus with meals, will also be supplying the families in attendance with free food and refreshments.
Local community resources, such as the Fullerton Fire Department, will attend and let children ride the fire truck. The FC cosmetology department will also be lending its expertise to make the celebrations a little brighter with hair chalk for the kids.
“It’s so meaningful, and it’s a memory that kids will remember when they’ve grown up and reminisce about past holidays,” said Moreno.
The event is still in need of volunteers for the party. To sign up, visit the 29th Annual Adopt-An-Angel Volunteers.
