Fullerton College President Cynthia Olivo’s commitment to help advance the students she governs speaks through her work. Some of her work done at FC includes: implementing Healthy Hornet Meals, establishing a Basic Needs & Welcome Center, and implementing a Student Advocate Program.
Her work on new centers and programs, such as Puente, MESA & STEM, Men of Color Center, Rising Scholars, and the addition of a new division of Ethnic Studies & Student Equity, contributed to her becoming the 2026 woman of the year for the 67th Assembly District.
Olivo previously served as the Assistant Superintendent and Vice President of Student Services at Pasadena City College. There, she also served as the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Counseling and Student Success Services. Olivo also served at California State University, San Bernardino, as the Associate Director of Admissions and Student Recruitment.
“Some of my greatest accomplishments would be being the first in my family to go to college. Earning my Ph.D., leading transformation in colleges, a transformation that honors our students,” said Olivo.
Olivo, serving as the 12th president of Fullerton College since January 2023, serves herself as a companion for equity, inclusion, and academic excellence for students.
Olivo’s credentials include a Ph.D. in education with an emphasis in urban leadership from Claremont Graduate University. As well as a Master of Science in psychology from California State University, San Bernardino.
Being a first-generation college student and third-generation Chicana, raised by a single mom. Her family was all she needed to continue growing.
“Even though we were poor financially, we were rich in faith, family, and love,” said Olivo.
Olivo’s biggest motivation is her niece and nephew. She feels like her contributions are the much-needed good in this world that allows her to set a positive role model.
“I want the world to be a better place for the next generation. Strides for social justice through education,” said Olivo.
Many others want to do the same by providing a good standing in the academic universe. Whether that be students brainstorming a new club or program that FC hasn’t offered yet, so the next generations can enjoy and succeed.
As FC grows in enrollment, Olivo would like to keep ensuring the school is doing as much as it can to support students, whether you are a first-year student or a graduated Hornet. Being supported is the top priority for faculty.
“I want to make sure we’re planting seeds within you that build on your wisdom, intelligence, cultural knowledge-seeds that will flourish into you all being the leaders our world needs,” said Olivo.
Being President of Fullerton College hasn’t been easy. Olivo has had challenges within the school network and personally. Her legacy will impact many students here at Fullerton College; the programs she introduced and the opportunities students have because of her will continue to live on.
“Never to let anyone make you feel less than. I have been second-guessed throughout my career. Have faith in yourself and stay true to your dreams,” she said.
